Day 46 and 47 in Costa Rica

by Vibrant Victoria on February 16, 2012

Woke up in the middle of the night with stomach cramps and the runs. My body is just cleansing and cleansing. Physically and emotionally it is all coming out. I went back to sleep and woke up again at 7a.m.

I soaked in the hot tub for a while. While I was soaking I noticed that the hot tub and the pool were both low on water so I filled them up.

I went to the great room, drank a bunch of water and wrote my blog. My stomach was still cramped up so I decided that breakfast wasn’t a good idea.

Everyone was gathered on the steps to go on their walks. Doug was saying that this day would be the flattest and the easiest. I thought, maybe it would be a good time to get back out there and start walking again. I still didn’t feel that strong yet, but I thought it would come back if I attempted to exercise some. I was afraid of having a repeat of the other day, but I just told myself that as soon as I start to feel weak I will immediately turn around and head back.

The walk started out fine. I was still not super strong but I felt ok. About a half hour into it though I knew I needed to turn back. I sat down on the side of the road and told my group that I needed to head back. Another intern said he would walk back with me. I stood up to start walking back and I felt like I was going to pass out. I started to say something about it and next thing I knew I woke up on the ground.

I was terrified but Grant was there and said everything would be ok. A local 80/10/10 couple had joined us on the walk and they said they could run home and get their car to take me back. I stayed down, drank some water and ate a little bit of dried mango. I wasn’t sure why my body was so wimpy lately. Last winter I did a 7-hour hike up and down hills and mountains, I was sore afterwards, but I was fine. I didn’t know what my deal is with being so weak and fragile.

The car came and they drove me back to the retreat and helped me to lie down in the great room. Even if I tried to sit up I felt like I was going to pass out again so I just stayed down. Clarissa brought me some OJ and celery. I felt a little better. I was on lunch prep duty so I crawled to the kitchen and peeled bananas while sitting in a chair. I could only do it for about a half hour until I felt like I needed to lie down again. I rested until Doug and Grant came back.

They helped me into one of the rooms so I could lie on a bed. Doug was telling me that he has seen this many times before. He told me a story about an athlete a couple of years ago that depleted his body like I did the other day and had to crawl back. He said it was over a week before that guy was up and about again. Pushing myself to try to go on a walk too soon was more than my body could take. My instructions were to eat, sleep and smile for the next few days. No going on walks or pushing myself in any way.

Now that I think about it. I wasn’t making very good decisions that morning. I had diarrhea throughout the night, I didn’t eat breakfast and I was still recovering from crawling back to the retreat the other day. Sometimes I’m not the brightest light out there. Good thing I try to learn from my mistakes J I don’t think I’ll push my body when it is obviously saying not to again.

I fell asleep for a few hours until it was almost time for dinner. When I crawled to the bathroom I realized that I had started my period. Great! More stuff to deal with! I thought that it would be pretty light this time since it was so heavy the last time and it lasted for almost 2 weeks.

At dinnertime Drew came in the room and helped me to the dining room. I was feeling a little better. Not as dizzy and my mood was really peaceful and calm.

DINNER:  OJ blended with mango and mora berries; spaghetti with zucchini noodles; pesto and lasagna.

Dinner tasted really good. I ate a lot to make up for not eating most of the day.

After dinner I could walk around and not feel dizzy. It was singing night and I sang a song from the original “Grease” movie called “Freddy My Love”. It was a fun song to sing.

I went down to the hot tub at around 9p.m. Soaked for a few minutes and went to sleep.

Day 47

Woke up at 3a.m. I didn’t have a book to read, so I just lied there. I couldn’t seem to fall back asleep. At 5:30a.m. I got up to go do breakfast prep. I was feeling really dizzy again. I tried doing breakfast prep but I was too wobbly and was kicked out of the kitchen.

One of the walking tour guests left yesterday to go back home because of work. I knew her bed was available. I crawled to her room and asked the lady staying in there if she minded if I took over the empty bed. She was happy to share her room with me; she was saying that she was planning on offering the extra bed to me anyway.

I was so very grateful. I crawled into the bed and immediately fell asleep. I slept for a few hours and woke up an hour before lunch.

I was bleeding really heavy again. Sheesh….how could I have that much blood inside me. I was surprised it was so heavy; usually when I am strict 80/10/10 my periods are really light, especially if I eat very little overt fats. I’m going on two months of very low fat 80/10/10, what is going on here? At least it’s not painful and I’m not getting cramps. I keep reminding myself that my body is working perfectly. Doing what it needs to do to bring me back to homeostasis.

I sat on the balcony with my new roommate and we talked for about 45 minutes. Then I had to go get my after picture taken. I still was feeling wobbly when I stood up, so I crawled to get my picture taken and then crawled to lunch.

LUNCH: banana smoothie, bananas, lettuce and celery

I at a lot of celery since I knew it was the best thing to get my body replenished. I did start feeling a little stronger after lunch was over.

I checked my e-mail, wrote my blog and attended the afternoon lecture. The lecture was about changing your life at home to make it possible to succeed eating 80/10/10. It was a really good lecture and I enjoyed it a lot.

Once the lecture was over I walked down to the pool and walked around in the water for a long time. It was a great way to move my body without it being strenuous. I soaked in the hot tub for a while. The man that is deaf was there and we talked for a while. I learned some more sign language, which was fun. Then he got out and a few minutes later another guy got in and we had a good talk as well. We talked until it was time for dinner.

DINNER: OJ blended with mango and pineapple; mango, tomato, lettuce, cucumber salad; sun dried tomatoes.

At dinner I thanked everyone for being so supportive and understanding of me and what I’ve been going through this whole trip.

After dinner I got on the internet and one of my friends on there helped me with my website and taught me how to do drop downs on my menu bar. He was very patient with me and I learned so much. I was super excited that I not only knew how to do certain things on my website, I actually understood the whole process. Instead of feeling frustrated now, I am looking forward to having fun making changes and detailing my website. Yay!

I stayed for a while during the after dinner event, which was a panel of 4 interns versus Doug and Grant. I signed some of it to the deaf man and I really enjoyed that. After a while I was too tired to stay up any longer so I went to my room. No hot tub tonight now that I’m not by the pool anymore. I went to sleep at around 9p.m.

I’ve loved reading all your posts so far and can’t wait to hear about your final days!

Are you at liberty to share any specific healings that occured during the fast (sans naming names)? If so, I’d love to hear some.

Hope to meet you at a future foodsnport event, Victoria. :)
